Out of Curiosity & Painted Ceilings

Just out of curiosity, what color would you paint my ceiling above the molding?

And for that matter, what color would you paint the walls?
Doesn't it just seem too plain?
Insomnia has me thinking about painting the walls and leaving the ceiling white, or painting the ceiling and leaving the walls white. It has been done before! (And I'm not talking about color on the walls and ignoring the ceiling, like most people do.) I am not crazy.

So what do you think? Dark indigo? Heavy cream? Gold? Burgundy? Pastel green? Pale buttery yellow? Creamsicle?
Keep in mind the two end chairs will be slipcovered in off-white/cream and the brown chairs will be replaced with cream colored chairs, and of course, the orange tablecloth is only seasonal.

My New Dining Room Chandelier

My mom bought us this chandelier as an anniversary gift, and my husband put it up. He and my dad had a rough time trying to get the medallion to stick to the ceiling with liquid nails, so in the end he just put a couple nails in it.

A Beautiful House Tour

One of my absolute favorite posts on Apartment Therapy was this lovely home of Isabelle and Brandon. I just love the outdoor fireplace, string lights and movie screen, the indoor swing, and the chicken coop.

Green Up Your Bathroom

My insomnia led me to Alicia Silverstone's health blog last night, and after she talked about installing low-flow toilets to save water, I read this:
"No matter what kind of toilet you have, I have a great tip for you that will save you money and save water! All you have to do is save a 20 oz. water bottle, remove any plastic or paper from the outside of it and then fill it partially with sand, dirt, pebbles or gravel (if you can’t find any of those materials around your house, just fill the bottle partially with water!). Make sure to seal the bottle tightly before placing it in your toilet tank. Then carefully lower the bottle into the tank and put the lid of the toilet back on. Pretty easy, right? HERE is a New York Times article about reducing water in your home. According to this article "A sealed half-gallon water container installed in the tank will save a half gallon of water per flush...a family of five that flushes five times a day each -- the national average -- will save 350 gallons of water each month." That's a lot of water!"

So I went ahead and added a bottle of water to my toilet tank. Not sure how I will know if it is making a difference, but I feel happy.

Here are other ways to green up your bathroom:
use green colored products made from eco-friendly materials.

Wallpaper for the Modern Day Home

There is a certain mentality among suburbia that says wallpaper is a definite NO. It's seen as okay  to have in a vintage Victorian home where all the details have been kept up, and maybe a border stripe in the kid's room, but other than that, we associate it with grandmothers and instinctually have to rip it down if we see it in the new house we buy. Even if someone loved it when they put it up in the 80s, eventually it nags at that person until they take it down. But I am here to prove that wallpaper can be a YES, in moderation.

Even More Mantel as Headboard Ideas

This idea is very popular, so I was wondering, besides a chance encounter with a vintage mantel at an antique shop or flea market, how can someone go about achieving this look? I guess the only other way to have a mantelpiece headboard is to buy an actual mantel and repurpose it. I would love to hear your ideas!

However, there is Pottery Barn's Addison headboard, only $500 for a queen size.

And here are some more pictures to get you inspired...

My personal favorite, found on www.indy.com
