Kitchen Door Curtains vs Blinds

Many of you probably have a kitchen area with a sliding door to the patio or backyard, and have probably wondered at some point whether to leave the door uncovered, put up vertical blinds, or put up drapes/curtains. So I will show you three pictures of each, and you can decide for yourself which looks best, although I would recommend covering your door for privacy if you have close neighbors.

#1 Vertical blinds
I find that vertical blinds, while practical,  are outdated. They work in apartments and temporary living situations, but in an actual house they only detract from the potential atmosphere of being well decorated. In the picture above, you can see that the blinds are framed by a china cabinet on one side, and a blank space on the other. This makes two thirds of the wall seem too occupied.

#2 Uncovered
I find that the uncovered doors in the picture above work well because of the uncovered window to the left of it. It is worth mentioning that there are no close neighbors and the house is in a rural area.

#3 Covered with curtains (my own house)
I choose to cover my sliding doors to the backyard deck with thermal curtains to keep cold air out during the winter, seeing as the windows on the door are so large. The thermal curtains really do keep the cold out, and you can definitely see a difference. Not only that, but I chose a color that would accentuate the cream cabinets.

House Tour: Rose's Guest Bedrooms

Hi again and on to part three of Rose's house tour. In my last post you may have seen the "overlook" in the living room. There was a set of stairs that led up to two rooms, a bathroom between them, and a small laundry room. Today's post will cover what Rose calls "the apartment." I apologize for the horrible photo quality. I just couldn't figure out why my camera couldn't get great shots.

The room below features a twin size sleeper that pulls out.

And here is the bathroom:

And the second upstairs bedroom:
Note that the headboard/bedframe will soon be replaced with something that matches the dresser, and that when the curtains are open there is a ton of light in the room. Hopefully I can go back soon and take a picture of the bedroom with the curtains open.
Personally, I think the black lounge should be slipcovered in cream.

I forgot to take a picture of the hallway, but here is a blurry picture of the view from the upstairs hallway. Again, I apologize for the picture quality. Hopefully I can redo this post soon.

Next up is the "His & Hers" bedrooms with a bathroom in between.

House Tour: Rose's Kitchen & Hearth Room

This will be my first house tour (other than my own) so please let me know if you like it!
I thought the kitchen and sitting area would be perfect to start with because of the rich fall paint colors. I would also like to add a note on how much of her accessories and furniture are not "new," meaning, most of it is from two or three houses ago and some has come from the house she grew up in. The chandeliers, which I think make the house, seem to have been the big splurge.

They plan on putting a hood over the stove, rather than a microwave, because it is closer to a traditional European cooking fireplace. For the same purpose, the backsplash over the stove is reminiscent of the bricks on the inside of a traditional fireplace/hearth.The hearth room is an extension of the kitchen and can seat up to 30 guests when needed. Their house was built with entertaining in mind, and there are a lot of comfortable sleeping areas for guests that have double functions.

That's it for today! Next time I will post pictures of the living room, dining room and hallways.
I am also working on redecorating their "bonus room," so keep watching for pictures of that.

Halloween Street Outdoor Decorating Ideas

There is a street in Romeo, MI that is known for the amazing Halloween decorations each year, so my family finally decided to go check it out. We were shocked that there was almost nowhere to park, and there were SO many people walking up and down the street. Apparently it is like this all the way up until Halloween (and I can only imagine how many people walk this street on Halloween day). I had a pretty awesome neighborhood growing up, most people would decorate, and there was always a good amount of candy at the end of the night (about four pillowcases full) but these days no one seems to care anymore. So to see a neighborhood like this, I felt hope for Halloween's future.
