Folk Victorian

I am addicted to HGTV and the DIY Network. I was watching it the other day and am so happy I got to see Curb Appeal: The Block, because our house looks so similar to the one they gave a makeover to.
Before
After

While we don't have a front porch, and the dormer is much more rectangular, it is the same blue color (which I want to keep) and I think we could get away with adding two tall trimmed bushes/trees on either side of the door and possibly flower window boxes. I would like to add some Folk Victorian panneling details as well. Our house and the two on each side of us are pretty decent, but the three directly across the street are, well, pretty horrible. I joke around that in 5 years we should sell our house after making it all pretty and buy one across the street. Do a neighborhood revamp. It's too bad I can't get on the show, because I have a gut feeling that our neighbors don't care what the exteriors of their houses look like one little bit.
In closing, here's a nice picture of a house with two trees framing the front door. I have to choose tall shrubs because we have a beautiful birch tree in the middle of our front yard. I feel like other trees would distract attention from the birch. Maybe I'll look at the rose-trees. (See last picture.) I never knew there was such a thing, but man are they pretty.
